2013 Frankfurt Motor Show: Ducati 899 Panigale unveiled

Ducati has unveiled their latest creation, the 899 Panigale. This baby Panigale will replace the 848 Evo globally and looks very similar to its elder sibling, the 1199 Panigale. The younger one however has limited features making it affordable and more accessible to many buyers.

The 899 Panigale is powered by an 898 cc L-Twin liquid-cooled engine that churns out 148bhp at 10,750 rpm and 99Nm at 9000 rpm with a reduced bore and stroke of 100mm x 57.2mm, compared to the 1199's 112mm x 60.8mm. The engine is mated to a 6 speed gearbox which sports Ducati Quick Shift sytem. The machine features Ducati Traction Control (DTC), electronic throttle control and Engine Brake Control (EBC) and triple stage antilock brakes.

It also sports the Ducati Riding Modes where the race riding mode provides the rider with 148bhp with direct Ride-by-Wire (RbW) throttle response and front-only ABS with reduced anti-rear lift up. The Sport Riding Mode helps the motorcycle deliver 148bhp but with smooth RbW throttle response along with front and rear ABS with increased anti-rear lift-up. The Wet Riding mode provides the rider with decreased 110bhp with smooth RbW throttle response and fully enhanced ABS for low grip conditions. The baby Panigale gets full black on white LCD display.

The 899 Panigale rides on ten-spoke wheels, 17 x 3.5 inches up front and 17 x 5.5 inches at the rear. They're wrapped in Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa tires sized 120/70ZR-17 and 180/60ZR-17, respectively. Braking power is provided 320mm semi-floating dual discs Brembo unit in the front and 245mm two piston calliper at the rear. It has a kerb weight of 193kg and has been priced at $14,995 (Rs 9.42 lakh) for the Red colour with black wheels whereas for the Arctic White with red wheels paint scheme you need to pay an additional $300 (Rs 19,263).

Talking about the 899 Panigale’s relation with India, it’s very unlikely to make its way to India until the company doesn’t make its official presence in the country. Meanwhile, enjoy the launch video of this beautiful machine below.
