We saw this street fighting monster just ahead of the show courtesy of a host of spy pictures and now here is the real deal. The 2014 Kawasaki Z1000 stays true to the pictures we have seen over the last weeks and continues the same design as its predecessor but in a more aggressive form. The 2014 MY Z1000 gets minor cosmetic changes as well as some major mechanical improvements.
The most obvious change to Z1000 is that it gets a new headlight assembly which is an LED spec unit and is the first from any Japanese manufacturer. As we had said earlier, the Z1000 also gets a more aggressive stance than the outgoing bike.
Where Kawasaki has done its magic is in the engine and underpinnings of the Z1000. They have revised the ECU settings, made changes to the camshaft timings, fitted a new air box and have connected the cylinders to reduce pumping losses. All these changes have resulted in a four bhp hike in power taking the total output to 140bhp and 111Nm of torque. Kawasaki has also reworked the front forks and the brakes all in a bid to improve the handling of the bike.
We expect Kawasaki will implement this aggressive design and mechanical overhaul on the faired Z1000SX when the 2014 MY bike is launched. We will get the Z1000 in India along with the smaller Z800 sometime next year as per our source, making it the first non-Ninja moniker products from the Japanese two-wheeler maker to reach our shores.
