Kawasaki has taken the wraps off the new 2015 Versys 650 at the EICMA. The new version gets both the cosmetic and technical upgrades, making it an even better adventure-touring package.
Unlike the current model’s boxy design, the new Versys is a lot curvier and aerodynamic. It gets a small spoiler at the front, something similar to one that we see on the new Ninja H2 and H2R. The design shift may not get many cheers from the Versys fans, but it is now a lot more mainstream. The cosmetic changes also include a new compact height adjustable windshield for better weather protection.
The braking capacity has been enhanced with the new ABS system, new rotor, improved pads, new master cylinder and brake calipers. The convenience factor goes up with the screws on top of the forks for adjustment of the front suspension and remotely adjustable preload settings for rear, which can be changed on the fly.
The Versys 650 continues to derive power from the 649cc liquid-cooled parallel twin delivering 69bhp at 8,500rpm and 64Nm of torque at 7,000rpm. It shares more than a few bits with the Ninja 650 and the ER-6N that are on sale in India. There are hardly any middle -weight tourers on sale in India and we hope Kawasaki launches this here, soon after the Versys 1000.
