Pictures of the 2015 Yamaha FJ-09 have been leaked ahead of its debut at the 2014 EICMA. The development plans for the FJ-09 were revealed earlier this year when a magazine unearthed some documents filed by the company to trademark the name. These pictures however, have now confirmed the existence of the adventure touring motorcycle.
The FJ-09 is based on the Japanese manufacturer’s popular naked motorcycle, the MT-09. To suit the purpose of dual purpose touring machine, the front suspension travel and the space between the rear wheel and the frame has been increased to allow adequate travel for some off-road action. The alloy wheels however, indicate that the FJ-09 is meant to be kept on the road more often than off it.
The front fairing will feature a tall windshield for better wind deflection while the seating position will be altered with taller handlebars. Step seats also seem to make the motorcycle more comfortable on long journeys. The instrument display is expected to be revamped to display a host of extra information. It also gets a bigger fuel tank to reduce the number of fuel stops.
The FJ-09 is expected to be powered by the same three-cylinder 850cc engine which produces 115bhp and 84Nm of torque, through a six-speed gearbox. More details are expected to be revealed as we get closer to the motorcycle’s first public appearance at the EICMA Show, next month. The FJ-09, once launched, will compete with other adventure tourers like the Triumph Tiger 800XC, Ducati Hypermotard, and the Suzuki V-Strom 1000.
