Kawasaki had launched the ZX-14R in the Indian market in September 2013. At that time the claimed power figure was 200hp. The power figure was understated. In reality, it actually managed just over 210hp in the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) tests, as reported by the International Press. Well, the new 2016 model has taken the figure down to 199.9hp.
The 2016 ZX-14R, as tested by the EPA, had a new version of the 1441cc engine with a three-way catalyst rather than an ‘oxidising’ catalytic converter which led to reduction in peak power and carbon monoxide emissions. Even though the US version was tested, it is likely that the European bike has also undergone similar changes to meet the Euro-6 emission limits.
The ZX-14R is the flagship motorcycle sold by Kawasaki in India. Imported as a CBU from Japan, the motorcycle is sold via the standalone Kawasaki dealership at Wakdewadi, Pune. Once launched we can expect the power reduction on the ZX-14R available in India as well.
