The 2016 Triumph Speed Triple and the Speed Triple R have been spotted testing near the company’s factory in England.
The sparsely camouflaged test mules show that the Speed Triple and Speed Triple R will continue with the muscular looks, albeit with lesser bulk. The body is now streamlined with a revised radiator guard and a sleeker tail unit. Even the headlamp has been redesigned and has adopted a softer and more rounded shape. Besides these cosmetic updates, the new models are also expected to be offered with a host of technical wizardry like fly-by-wire throttle, traction control, switchable power modes and keyless ignition.
Powering the motorcycles is the same 1,050cc inline three-cylinder engine, which in its current state of tune produces 133bhp and 111Nm of torque. However, the ram air intake located at the front should help in bumping up the engine’s power figures. While the standard model rides on Showa suspension, the sportier R model gets sophisticated Ohlins units.
These new motorcycles are mere mid-cycle facelifts which should extend the lifespan of the models, till the next generation comes along in the next couple of years. Both these models will be globally unveiled before the end of this year, with an Indian launch expected around early 2016.
