BMW Motorrad’s upcoming performance-focused superbike, the HP4 Race, has been spotted undergoing trials in Spain.
The spy shots show that not much has changed over the original HP4 Race prototype which was first showcased at the 2016 EICMA Show in Milan, Italy. Featuring carbon-fibre twin-spar frame, sub-frame and bodywork around an S1000RR-based engine, the HP4 Race will be produced in a limited run. Even the wheels are made of carbon fibre. The 999cc inline four engine breathes through an Akrapovic system. BMW has withheld the power output and other finer details about the engine. However, we do know that it rides on sophisticated Ohlins suspension, while braking is taken care of by Brembo M50 monobloc callipers.
Rumours suggest that the production version of the BMW HP4 Race will be showcased at the 2017 Auto Shanghai. We can expect the bike to be substantially more expensive that the standard BMW S1000RR, thanks to its track-focused character and its limited production run.
