BMW Motorrad has unveiled its most performance-focussed production bike till date – the HP4 Race. To be produced in a limited run of just 750 units, the HP4 Race is a homolgation special hand-built by a special team in Berlin, Germany.
The carbon-fibre frame and wheels, aluminium fuel tank and titanium Akrapovic exhaust system all contribute towards making the HP4 Race 30kg lighter than the standard S1000RR. Though the 999cc inline-four engine is similar to the one used in the S1000RR, it has been tuned for an output of 215bhp and 120Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a reverse-pattern six-speed transmission with a bi-directional quickshifter. Suspension duties are handled by Ohlins, fully-adjustable FGR300 forks up front and an Ohlins TTX 36 GP absorber at the back. A race-spec Ohlins steering damper is also standard. Braking is taken care of Brembo units.
The riding position can be adjusted according to the rider’s preference with eight-stage adjustment for the footpegs and a three-stage seat height adjustment. Electronics includes 15-level traction control, wheelie control, engine brake control, launch control and even a pit lane speed limiter. The HP4 Race is compliant to compete in the Endurance and World Superbike (WSBK) championship. It even gets a quick-release front wheel to enable quick wheel change.
While the HP4 Race might be launched in India in the near future, we can expect only a couple of units to be allocated. Given that it would cost over a crore, exclusivity is guaranteed.
