BMW’s flagship naked motorcycle – the 2017 S1000R has been launched in Europe. This litre-class bike has received a host of mechanical updates which has made the bike faster.
The German manufacturer has given the S1000R a lighter chassis that has helped it cut down weight by almost 2kg to 205kg. The 1000cc inline four motor has been retuned to make it Euro-IV compliant. The power has been bumped up by 5bhp to 162bhp from 157bhp. It gets a new titanium exhaust that meets the Europe emission norms.
BMW is known to offer top-notch electronics package on its motorcycles and with the 2017 S1000R, it is no different. Other than the bi-directional quick-shifter, the S1000R is equipped with cornering ABS which the company calls it the ABS Pro. The instrument cluster has been revised for more features and better readability. It now shows ambient temperature details as well.
The 2017 BMW S1000R has been priced at £10,705(Rs 8.67 lakh) for the base version. The customer has the option of choosing the model with light-weight cast alloy wheels but needs to pay extra for that. BMW is offering the 2017 S1000R with three new colours – red, grey and BMW Motorsport dual-tone option.
Will this bike come to India? Definitely! But expect it to be expensive since the S1000R will be sold as a completely-built-up(CBU) unit and that will attract high taxation. It sees the Suzuki GSX-S1000, Aprilia Tuono V4 and the Kawasaki Z1000 as its rivals in India.
