The 2017 BMW S1000R was recently spotted at the Oschersleben race track in Germany, ahead of its official debut at the INTERMOT Show in Cologne, Germany.
A passing glimpse at the motorcycle might fool you into believing that this is the current S1000R. Look closely and you will notice subtle differences. This motorcycle gets a slightly revised frame based on the lines of the 2015 S1000RR. The radiator shroud has been revised to improve airflow, while the headlamp also gets subtle revisions. The exhaust system has been revamped with the Akrapovic end can being connected to a new muffler. It also gets a quickshifter with auto blip, borrowed from S1000RR. While a visual inspection doesn’t reveal any difference in the engine, it might get a revised cylinder head and intake camshaft and valves like the 2015 S1000RR. It will also be Euro IV compliant.
By the looks of it, the test mule seems ready to hit the production lines. BMW is rumoured to announce its official re-entry in India before the end of this year, which means we can expect the new S1000R to be launched here in the first quarter of 2017. It will compete with other litre-class streetfighters like the Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 and the MV Agusta 1090 Brutale.
