The Kawasaki Z900 has been launched in Europe. The middleweight plus streetfighter has been priced at GBP 8,399 (Rs 7.21 lakhs) in the UK, and is available in a detuned avatar for A2 license holders.
Unlike in India, the licensing system in Europe requires riders to start off riding low speed motorcycles before they can progressively graduate to faster ones. The A2 license can be issued to 19 year olds and above, which qualifies them to ride motorcycles delivering between 48bhp to 93bhp, depending upon how long they have been riding. As such, the A2 license-compliant Z900 is electronically restricted to 93bhp, and can be further detuned to 51bhp. Once the rider graduates to an unrestricted license, the Z900 can be remapped to its full potential of 123bhp.
Apart from the engine tuning, there is no difference between a regular Z900 and the A2-compliant version. It gets the same aggressive looks and the 948cc inline four engine. This should encourage buyers to opt for this bike rather than settle for something smaller in capacity and size.
