KTM is going to launch the 2017 Duke range in India on February 23. While the new 390 Duke is going to be aligned with the global 2017 model, our sources suggest that the 200 Duke is merely going to be a facelift.
The 2017 KTM 390 Duke gets a new design philosophy in line with the rest of the KTM streetfighter range with split LED headlamps and the edgier bodywork. The chassis has also been revised and it gets a new subframe to improve riding dynamics. The front wheel rides on new open-cartridge forks. The 373cc single-cylinder engine has been updated to meet BS IV regulations, gaining a new exhaust system in the process. The engine delivers 44bhp and 35Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed transmission with a slipper clutch.
However when it comes to the new 200 Duke, our sources suggest that the bike will only get a cosmetic update with a new sticker job. This seems to be a step taken to keep costs in check and continue to offer the 200 Duke at the current price point. The engine though, has been updated to meet BS IV emission norms.
The new 390 Duke is expected to get a price hike of Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000, which means that there is going to be a void between the two Duke models. Our sources also suggest that KTM will also launch a new motorcycle to slot between 200 Duke and 390 Duke, though there is no word from the company regarding this. Select KTM dealers have started accepting bookings for the motorcycles for a token amount of Rs 20,000.
