KTM has launched an updated RC390 for 2017 at Rs 2.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). While the cosmetic changes give it a new look, the technological updates make it BS IV-compliant and improve its racy character. We take a closer look at the motorcycle with a photo gallery.
The aerodynamic design of the fairing and the twin projector headlamps with LED strips enhance the RC390’s sporty looks.
The KTM RC390 is built around a steel trellis frame with the 373cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine as a stressed member.
The engine has been updated to meet BS IV norms, and delivers 43bhp and 35Nm of torque through a six-speed gearbox with a new slipper clutch.
The slipper clutch is a racing-derived component which limits the back-torque from the engine in the event of a downshift, preventing rear wheel lock-up.
The KTM RC390 also gets wider mirrors and adjustable brake and clutch levers to improve ergonomics.
The RC390 also gets a ride-by-wire throttle to smoothen out throttle response and a CAN BUS to improve cable packaging.
The new RC390 breathes out through a conventional side-mounted exhaust canister instead of the older model’s underbelly unit.
Stopping power has been improved thanks to a bigger 320mm disc brake at the front. Switchable ABS is offered as standard.
The RC390 rides on inverted 43mm front forks and a 10-step preload-adjustable rear monoshock, both supplied by WP Suspension.
The RC390 has also been updated with a new livery, combining KTM’s racing traditional colours – orange, white and black.
