Triumph is going to launch the 2017 Tiger Explorer in India on 25 July. The most expensive adventure touring bike in the company’s portfolio, the Tiger Explorer is powered by a 1215cc three-cylinder engine.
There aren’t many visual updates over the previous model, and the main purpose of this update is to make the Tiger Explorer BS-IV compliant. It gets rugged cues like a high-riding stance, spoke wheels, bash guard, upswept exhaust and minimalistic bodywork. It rides on a 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel.
The Tiger Explorer is built around a tubular steel trellis frame. The powertrain is a 1215cc three-cylinder engine, delivering 137bhp and 123Nm of torque through a shaft driven system. The engine is mated to a six-speed transmission. The Tiger Explorer rides on 48mm inverted front forks and a rear monoshock, supplied by WP Suspension. Braking is taken care of by a Brembo setup with dual 305mm discs up front and a Nissin setup with 282mm disc at the rear.
Globally, the Tiger Explorer is available in eight trims though the Indian portfolio so far consisted on a single mid-spec model – the Tiger Explorer XC. We expect this to continue with the new model. The 2017 Tiger Explorer will compete with other adventure touring bikes like the Ducati Multistrada Enduro, Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally and the BMW R1200 GS.
