There’s a lot of action happening in the premium 160cc motorcycle segment. First it was Bajaj that launched the Pulsar NS160 and now TVS has begun testing of the 2017 Apache RTR 160.
Just a few days ago, we reported about a test mule that was spied testing. Now it looks like the same test mule was spied testing again, but this time it reveals more information. While the styling of the Apache 160 comes from its elder sibling, the Apache RTR 200, it also loses on a lot of features. The test mule carried a single handlebar, unlike the clip-ons on the Apache 200. The bike misses out on the split seats too. Instead, it gets a single long seat, which is usually seen in price-cut models. Other bits like kick-starter, drum brake at the rear, silver side panels and thinner tyres can be seen on the 2017 Apache RTR 160.
In terms of the mechanicals, the bike will get its power from a single-cylinder 160cc motor. But as of now, no details have been revealed about its power figures. A closer look on the crankcase cover reveals that the design is different, thus making us believe that TVS has heavily reworked on this motor.
We’re expecting a festive season launch for this TVS. The price of the 2017 model could be marginally increased, but it might be competitive as compared to its rivals like the Honda CB Hornet 160R, Suzuki Gixxer 150, Bajaj Pulsar NS160 and the Yamaha FZ S 2.0.
