Honda recently upgraded the Dio for 2018 and priced it at Rs 53,292 (ex-showroom). The 109cc scooter gets new colours, an LED headlamp, a digital instrument console and a few minor revisions to its bodywork. Around the price of the Honda Dio you could opt for various other scooters and commuter motorcycles. Here is what the list looks like-
Apart from the Dio, Honda itself offers three scooters around a similar price range- the Activa 5G, Aviator and the Activa-i. The Activa 5G was recently launched with LED lights and new colour schemes with prices starting at at Rs 52,460.
The Aviator, targeted at male buyers thanks to its tall stance and edgy design is priced at Rs 54,279. Both scooters use a 109cc motor that produces 8bhp and 8.83Nm of torque. The Activa-I on the other hand is the more affordable and stylish version of the conservative Activa 5G. It retails at Rs 50,432 and is powered by a 110cc engine that produces 8bhp and 8.74Nm of torque.
Hero has the Maestro Edge and Duet. The Hero Maestro Edge like its name suggests, gets an edgy styling and is aimed at the youth. It is priced at Rs 50,525. The Duet is promoted as a family scooter priced at Rs 50,025. Powering both the scooters is a 110cc engine that produces 8.31bhp and 8.30Nm of torque. TVS offers the Wego and the Scooty Zest 110. The Wego gets a conservative design that appeals to a wider audience. It is priced at Rs 52,605 and is powered by a 109cc engine that churns out 8bhp and 8Nm of torque.
The Scooty Zest 110 retains the familiar Scooty look with a similar fascia, a big headlamp and vertically stacked turn indicators. It uses a 110cc, engine that produces 7.9bhp and 8.7Nm of torque. It retails at Rs 49,493.
You could also opt for the Suzuki Let’s, marketed as a scooter for women. It is powered by a 112cc engine that puts out 8.5bhp and 9Nm of torque. The scooter costs Rs 50,701. Suzuki also has its flagship scooter, the Access 125 priced at Rs 56,716. The scooter gets a retro design language and touches of chrome to boost its classic appeal. It is powered by a 125cc engine that produces 8.4bhp and 10.2Nm of torque.
Also on offer is the Alpha which based on the same platform as the Fascino, albeit with sharper lines. The Yamaha Alpha is priced at Rs 53,223. There also is the Yamaha Cygnus Ray ZR which sports a sharp design and is aimed at the urban youth, similar to the Honda Dio. The scooter retails for Rs 54,543. Both Yamaha scooters use the same 113cc engine that produces 7.1bhp and 8.1Nm of torque.
If you would want to opt for a motorcycle from Honda, there is the CD 110, the most affordable motorcycle from the manufacturer's Dream series line-up. It is powered by a 110cc engine that produces 8.25bhp of power and 8.63Nm of torque and retails at Rs 47,070. Also on offer from Honda is the Dream Yuga which also sports a conventional commuter styling. The bike is a powered by a 109cc that engine produces 8.2bhp and 8.6Nm of torque. It costs Rs 53,544.
You could also look at three other motorcycles from Hero Motocorp. There is the Splendor Pro, Splendor i3s and Passion Pro. The Splendor Pro retails at Rs 51,476 and the Splendor i3S costs Rs 51,911.Both sport styling similar to the standard Splendor and also get the same engine. However, the latter gets the i3S start-stop system for better fuel efficiency. Powering the bikes is a 97.2cc single-cylinder engine that produces 7.4bhp 7.95Nm of torque. The Hero Passion Pro also gets the i3S system and sports stylish bodywork and modern features. Its 97.2cc single-cylinder engine is slightly more powerful producing 8.3bhp and 8Nm of torque.
Also on offer is the Bajaj Discover 125 and Discover 110. Both bikes sport a similar design language and get LED DRLs. The Discover 125 is priced at Rs 53,491 and is powered by a 124cc engine that delivers 10.6bhp and 10.98Nm of torque. On the other hand, the Discover 110 sports a 115cc engine that produces 8.6bhp and 9.81Nm of torque. The Discover 110 comes with a Rs 50,560 price tag. TVS offers the Star City priced at Rs 45,653. It is powered by the 'Ecothrust' 110cc engine which produces 8.3bhp and 8.7Nm of torque. Also on offer is the Yamaha Saluto RX which draws that uses a 110cc engine, delivering 7.4bhp and 8.5Nm of torque. The Saluto RX is priced at Rs 47,721. Also available is the Suzuki Hayate EP that is priced at Rs 52,307. It uses a 113cc engine that produces 8.6bhp and 9.3Nm of torque.
