The original streetfighter is back in a new avatar. The Triumph Speed Triple, the motorcycle which kickstarted the genre back in 1994, has been updated for 2018. It might not look much different from the previous model, but a lot has changed under the skin. Here is a photo gallery of the new Triumph Speed Triple –
The new Speed Triple carries over the hooligan-esque design language complete with the exposed frame, muscular fuel tank, single-sided swingarm and the underseat exhaust.
However, it does get LED DRLs, minor revisions for the bodywork and new paint schemes to set it apart from the outgoing model.
The instrument cluster consists of a five-inch colour TFT display similar to the Street Triple, which can be controlled through a five-way joystick on the switchgear.
Powering the Speed Triple is a 1050cc inline-three engine. Triumph has revised the internals of the engine to make it rev higher and handle the higher output.
The engine now delivers 148bhp and 116Nm of torque, and revs up to 10,500rpm. It is mated to a six-speed transmission. Quickshifter is offered only on the RS.
The Speed Triple gets riding modes and a safety net of IMU-regulated ABS and traction control system. It even gets cruise control.
The Speed Triple is offered in two variants, the S and the RS. The latter gets an additional riding mode (Track), higher-spec suspension and sportier paint scheme.
While the Speed Triple S rides on a Showa suspension setup, the RS benefits from Ohlins units. Nevertheless, both are fully adjustable.
The brake setup has been sourced from Brembo and consists of monobloc calipers. The 10-spoke alloy wheels are shod with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa tyres.
