Triumph has unveiled the 2018 Speed Triple S and the Speed Triple RS. Although it is based on the same platform, the 2018 Speed Triple has a higher power output and 105 new parts as compared to the outgoing model.
Visually, the new Speed Triple retains the characteristic styling that have made it so popuar among enthusiasts. However, the bug-eyed headlamps now get LED DRLs. It even gets the new five-inch colour TFT dash like the one used in the new Street Triple and Tiger models.
The engine retains the inline-three and oversquare configuration, although the internals have been revised to handle the higher output. Triumph has increased the compression ratio to achieve the higher output. The engine now delivers 148bhp and 116Nm of torque, and is mated to a six-speed transmission. It also benefits from a bunch of new rider aids like riding modes and cruise control. ABS and traction control have been retained, although they now take the feedback from a Continental IMU.
The RS gets a quickshifter and an additional 'Track' riding mode as standard. It also gets Ohlins suspension setup in place of the S model's Showa units. Both the models source brakes from Brembo.
We can expect the new Speed Triple to go on sale in India in the next few months. It will compete against the likes of the Kawasaki Z1000, Suzuki GSX-S1000, Aprilia Tuono 1100, BMzw S1000R, MV Agusta Brutale 1090 and the Honda CB1000R.
