Triumph is going to launch the 2018 Tiger 800 in India on March 21. The adventure touring motorcycle features upgrades for the engine, revised electronics and redesigned bodywork to give it a fresh look.
Triumph claims that the new Tiger 800 has over 200 changes over the outgoing model. These cover everything from improvement for rider aids and safety and a performance upgrade. Visually, the new Tiger 800 gets LED headlamps along with redesigned tank side panels. It also gets a five-way adjustable windscreen and raised handlebar to give it a more upright riding stance. The instrument console gets a five-inch TFT instrument cluster similar to the new Street Triple. It can be controlled through five-way toggle switches on the left switchgear.
At the heart of the Tiger 800 is an 800cc in-line three cylinder engine that has been tuned to be more responsive. It also gets a cruise control system and six riding modes along with an additional ‘Off-Road-Pro’ mode for the XC models, which turn the traction control and ABS for the rear wheel off. The XC variants get new Brembo front brakes while the XR retains the Nissin setup. The XR gets a Showa suspension setup while the XC variants source suspension from WP.
The new Tiger 800 will be slightly more expensive than the outgoing model. The XR variants are expected to start at Rs 11.5 lakhs while the XC line-up will start at Rs 14 lakhs. The Tiger 800 competes against the Ducati Multistrada 950, Kawasaki Versys 1000, Honda Africa Twin, Suzuki V-Strom 1000, BMW F 750 GS and the F 850 GS.
