- It is expected to be officially launched next week
- It will come in standard and Adventure variants
- To be priced around Rs 2 lakh more than the R1200 GS and GS Adventure
BMW Motorrad dealerships have started accepting bookings for their upcoming flagship adventure tourer, the 2019 R1250 GS in India. The motorcycle is expected to be officially launched next week and it will be split into two variants including the standard and Adventure, both of which were unveiled last year. These will be the successors to the R1200 GS and R1200 GS Adventure.
The 2019 BMW R1250 GS looks similar to the current model carrying the similar chiseled and muscular body panels and a beak-like front fairing. While the standard version gets alloy wheels, the Adventure variant is more versatile as it gets spoke wheels. It also comes equipped with luggage rack, crash guards and knuckle guards for better protection. Moreover, the Adventure model, at 249kg (kerb), is 20kg heavier than the standard bike and gets a bigger 30-litre (standard gets 20-litres) fuel tank.
Powering the bike is a 1254cc, boxer twin engine which is bigger than the older 1170cc motor. It generates 136bhp of power and 143Nm of torque which is up from the 1200’s 124bhp/125Nm. The motorcycle incorporates a host of features including hill start control, traction control and two riding modes (rain and road). All the information is displayed on a 6.5-inch TFT instrument cluster and illumination is provided through LED headlamps and tail lamps.
The BMW R1200 GS standard and Adventure are priced at Rs 15.70 lakhs and Rs 17.10 lakhs, (both are ex-showroom) respectively. We expect the upcoming bikes to demand a premium of around Rs 2 lakhs over the outgoing models. These bikes will compete against other high-end adventure tourers such as the Triumph Tiger 1200 and Ducati Multistrada 1260. We contacted BMW for the confirmation of the launch but we are yet to receive a reply.
