BMW Motorrad has launched its new flagship adventure bike, the R1250 GS in India. The bike has been priced at Rs 16.85 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
The German maker has launched three other variants along with the standard model. The R1250 GS Pro costs Rs 20.05 lakhs), whereas the R1250 GS Adventure retails at Rs 18.25 lakhs. The top-spec model, the R1250 GS Adventure Pro is the most expensive at Rs 21.95 lakhs.
The R1250GS gets major mechanical as well as aesthetic changes. While the R1250 GS still carries forward most of the styling from its predecessor, the bike still manages to look modern and very relevant. The bulky panels, chiselled fuel tank and beak-like front fairing makes the motorcycle look quite big.
The R1250GS gets its power from a 1254cc boxer twin engine that churns out 136bhp of power and 143Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a six-speed gearbox that transfers power to the rear wheel via a shaft drive. The motorcycle incorporates a host of features including hill start control, traction control and two riding modes (rain and road). All the information is displayed on a 6.5-inch TFT instrument cluster and illumination is provided through LED headlamps and tail lamps.
The R1250 GS gets alloy wheels, whereas the Adventure variant gets spoke wheels. The bike is loaded with luggage racks, crash guards and knuckle guards for better protection. The R1250 Adventure tips the scale at 249kg, thanks to the bigger 30-litre fuel tank.
The R1250 GS rivals the Triumph Tiger 1200 and the Ducati Multistrada 1260. The bookings have already begun at all showrooms. Just like all the other big BMWs, the R1250 GS is also imported as completely-built-up(CBU) units.
