- ‘1250’ in the name means upgraded engine
- more power, torque and better efficiency
- more electronic aids are standard
The 2019 BMW R1250RT has been announced, and it gets very similar engine upgrades to the R1250GS that we’ve talked about before. In addition, a few electronic aids have also become standard items.
We’ve talked about the new 1250 boxer engine and its ShiftCam tech in our article about the R1250GS, and what it does is offer better throttle response, cleaner emissions and lower fuel consumption (especially in urban traffic), and better power and torque figures – 134bhp/125Nm – at full throttle. Dynamic Traction Control, Automatic Stability Control and Hill Start Control are all standard now for the 2019 model. On the options list is the next generation of semi-active suspension. The Dynamic ESA accounts for the extra weight of luggage and a pillion, and adjusts itself automatically.
However, the largest changes remain to the engine, with a lot of improvements under the hood that cannot be seen but show up in the results. The rest of the R1250RT remains largely unchanged. We expect it to launch in the Indian market a few months after it debuts globally. The price increase will be substantial, as befits the improvements and larger engine.
