2019 BMW S1000RR expected to be launched in India next month

BMW Motorrad is expected to launch the 2019 S1000RR in India next month, a few dealers have confirmed.

Unveiled at the 2018 EICMA in Italy, the BMW S1000RR has undergone a complete overhaul for 2019. The motorcycle now gets a more aerodynamic bodywork. It gets twin LED projector headlamps with LED DRLs that replace the distinctive asymmetrical headlamps of its predecessor.

With a wheelbase of 1,441mm and width of 848mm, it is also longer and wider than the previous model. The seat height has also been reduced to 824mm; which is 2mm lower than its predecessor. The 2019 BMW S1000RR also weighs 11kg lesser with the majority of the weight reduction coming from a lighter engine and exhaust system.

BMW has also retuned the 999cc, inline-four cylinder motor that now produces 204bhp at 13,500rpm and 113Nm of torque at 11,000rpm.  It features BMW’s ShiftCam technology which adjusts valve strokes and timings on the intake side. This motor comes mated to a six-speed gearbox with a bi-directional quick shifter as standard. In terms of electronics, the 2019 S 1000 RR comes with a six-axis IMU, wheelie control, traction control, engine braking system, launch control and ABS. Furthermore, the suspension also gets electronic damping. 

BMW offers the 2019 S1000RR in four variants internationally- Standard, Select, Race and M. However, we expect the manufacturer to skip the Select variant for India. There is no details about the pricing of the motorcycle but given the updates and features the 2019 model offers, it is likely to demand a substantial premium over the existing model which retails at Rs 18.05 lakhs for the base variant and goes up to Rs 20.75 lakhs for the top-spec ‘Pro’ version (all prices ex-showroom).
