- 2019 BMW S1000RR gets cosmetic and mechanical upgrades
- Gets BMW ShiftCam technology
- Weighs 11kgs lighter than the outgoing model
BMW Motorrad India has sent out an invite announcing the launch of the all-new BMW S1000RR in India on June 27. The news came in the wake of a teaser image that was released by the German bike maker only a few days ago.
The company had first revealed the next-generation S1000RR during last year’s EICMA event, followed by its launch in the international market. For the new 2019 edition, the S1000RR receives a substantial overhaul on the cosmetic as well as the mechanical front. The quirky looking asymmetrical headlamp has now been replaced with a pair of sleek LED projector headlamps. The overall design has been given a sleeker look which makes the bike more compact in its dimensions. It gets a new aluminium twin-spar chassis with a trellis subframe.
On the feature-front, while the current generation is already loaded with electronic wizardry, the 2019 edition has few additional gadgets like a full-colour TFT instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity and navigation, dynamic traction control, hill start assist and Shift Assist Pro.
Powering the flagship supersport offering is a newly developed 999cc inline four motor that is equipped with BMW ShiftCam technology. BMW has tuned the motor to deliver a maximum power output of 204bhp and 113Nm which comes mated to a six-speed gearbox. The motor is now 4 kgs lighter than the previous generation. The overall weight of the motorcycle is now 11 kgs lesser than the current outgoing model. This is the result of a lighter engine, exhaust system and new chassis.
Considering the host of new features, expect the 2019 S1000RR to receive a considerable hike in its price tag. In terms of rivals, the motorcycle will lock horns with the Yamaha YZF-R1, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R and the Suzuki-GSX-S1000R.
