Ducati’s power cruiser, the 2019 Diavel 1260 won the ‘Red Dot Award: Best of the Best’ title in the product design category. The award ceremony will be held on 8 July in Essen, Germany.
This is the third time a Ducati motorcycle won this title. The first model which grabbed the Red Dot Design Award was the Ducati Panigale 1199 in 2013 which was followed by the XDiavel S in 2016. Notably, the Italian bikemaker’s power cruiser has won the award for the second time. The Ducati Diavel 1260 was unveiled at the 2018 EICMA show in Milan, Italy. The motorcycle carries a massive road presence with its muscular body panels, flying tail section and chunky tyres. It features a horseshoe-shaped LED headlamp and under-seat tail lamp while all the information is displayed on a 3.5-inch TFT colour display.
Adding to its aesthetic bulk is the mighty 1262cc, Testastretta, DVT engine which churns out 157bhp of power and 129Nm of torque. For taming its healthy power, there are electronic aids such as wheelie control, cruise control, eight-level traction control, three riding modes and cornering ABS. Based on the steel trellis frame, the Ducati Diavel 1260 is suspended on USD front forks and rear monoshock and it features a single-sided swingarm. Braking duties are handled by 320mm dual discs on the front and a 265mm disc at the back.
The Ducati Diavel 1260 is expected to be launched in India in the second half of 2019. As for the pricing, it is likely to demand a premium over the ongoing Diavel which costs Rs 16.15 lakhs (ex-showroom).
