- Successor to the CBR 650F
- Powered by the same motor but produces slightly more power
- Available in two colour schemes – Grand Prix Red and Matte Gunpowder Black Metallic
Honda 2Wheelers India has updated its big bike portfolio by launching the new 2019 CBR650R in India. A successor to the CBR650F that was sold earlier, the new motorcycle has been priced at Rs 7.70 lakhs (ex-showroom, pan India).
The 2019 CBR650R takes its design cues from the flagship Fireblade model featuring a full fairing with sharp edgy lines that end with a petite tail section. The single headlamp unit has been replaced by a sleek full LED twin headlamp unit similar to one on the Fireblade. Besides that, it features a full digital LED instrument console with gear position indicator and a Shift Up indicator.
Powering the middle-weight Super Sport is the same 648.72cc in-line four-cylinder liquid-cooled unit that has been carried forward from the CBR 650F. However, the motor now produces slightly more power which stands at 86bhp at 11,500rpm and 60.1Nm of peak torque at 8,000rpm. Interestingly, the power figures of the international spec CBR650R stand at 92.5bhp at 12,000rpm while torque figure remains the same. Transmission duties continue to be handled by a 6-speed constant mesh gearbox now equipped with an Assist/Slipper Clutch.
On the feature front, the motorcycle also comes with Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) function which maintains traction at the rear wheel which is switchable. The new CBR650R’s chassis is 6kg lighter than its predecessor and now weighs 210kg.
Coming to the cycle parts, the motorcycle comes with new adjustable 41 mm Showa Separate Fork Function (SFF) inverted forks up front and a Pro-Link type monoshock at the rear. For braking, the motorcycle employs 310mm dual discs with radial calipers at the front and a 240mm single disc with a single-piston caliper at the rear. Dual-channel ABS remains as standard equipment.
The 2019 CBR650R is available in two liveries - Grand Prix Red and Gunpowder Black Metallic. The new middle-weight Super Sport can be purchased through Honda’s all 22 WingWorld and the recently introduced BigWing dealership.
