- Gets styling similar to the Ninja 400
- Is powered by a 249cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled motor
Kawasaki has unveiled its all-new quarter-litre, fully-faired motorcycle, the 2019 Ninja 250, at the ongoing 2019 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS).
The motorcycle borrows its styling from its elder sibling, the Ninja 400, which is available in India. Hence, it gets the same aggressive, hunched-forward stance comprising of a sleek-looking split headlamp, clip-on handlebars, angular fairing with integrated turn indicators, muscular fuel tank and a sharp upswept tail section. The motorcycle also gets a semi-digital instrument cluster which is same as on the Ninja 400.
The Ninja 250 is powered by a 249cc, liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder motor. Despite the smaller displacement as compared to the Ninja 300, which is also sold in India, the power output of the Ninja 250 is on par with its 300cc sibling. In that case, this mill produces 38.5bhp at 12,500rpm and 23.5Nm at 10,000rpm. It rides on 17-inch wheels which are shod with Dunlop rubbers while the suspension duties are handled by telescopic forks up front and a monoshock at the rear. Subsequently, braking power comes from a single disc at both ends while dual-channel ABS comes as standard.
Instead of introducing the Ninja 400, Kawasaki has the Ninja 250 for the Indonesian market with the same styling as its bigger sibling. That is thanks to the extremely high taxes which motorcycles over-250cc attract in the country. It is for the same reason that bikes up to 250cc are highly popular in Indonesia as the manufacturers can price them aggressively. As for its India entry, we might not see this bike here anytime soon as Kawasaki already has the Ninja 300 and the Ninja 400 in the country.
