- To be powered by 1200cc, parallel-twin engine
- Expected to be priced between Rs 10.5 lakhs and Rs 11.5 lakhs
- Bookings have already commenced
Triumph Motorcycles is scheduled to launch the Speed Twin in India tomorrow, 24 April.
The Speed Twin derives its styling from its younger sibling, the 2019 Street Twin which was recently launched in the country. It gets a properly retro-looking circular headlamp with an LED DRL that is flanked by LED turn indicators on both sides. The bike also gets a twin-pod instrument cluster that accentuates its classic retro look. However, most of the Speed Twin's components like the drivetrain, wheels and suspension are blacked-out lending the motorcycle a modern appeal.
The Triumph Speed Twin uses the same chassis and 1200cc, parallel-twin engine from the Thruxton R. It generates 96bhp of power and 112Nm of torque and comes paired to a six-speed gearbox. Braking duties are done by dual 305mm discs upfront with Brembo four-piston calipers and a 220mm disc at the rear.
Meanwhile, telescopic forks at the front and twin shocks at the rear take care of suspension duties. In terms of electronic aids, the Speed Twin is equipped with three riding modes- Road, Rain and Sport along with traction control, ride-by-wire throttle and dual-channel ABS.
We expect Triumph to price the 2019 Speed Twin between Rs 10.5 lakhs to Rs 11.5 lakhs (ex-showroom). Dealerships have already started accepting bookings and deliveries are expected to commence sometime next month. Once launched, the 2019 Speed Twin will face competition from the Ducati Scrambler 1100 in India.
