- Production-ready 2020 KTM 1290 Super Duke spied
- Gets major cosmetic and mechanical upgrades
- To be unveiled at 2019 EICMA
KTM has been teasing the arrival of the 2020 1290 Super Duke R since a while and is all set to reveal the bike at the upcoming 2019 EICMA. However, with just a week before it’s unveiling, spy images of the production-ready 2020 KTM 1290 Super Duke R have emerged.
The streetfighter gets minor tweaks to its bodywork, making it look even sharper than before. There is the sharp tank shrouds, broad shoulder lines on the fuel tank and a sleeker split-LED headlamp that sits a bit higher than on the outgoing model. KTM has also changed the split seat setup which is now similar to the one on the 790 Duke.
Underneath its new skin, the new Super Duke R also sports a new tubular trellis frame along with a redesigned sub-frame and swingarm. Furthermore, the bike rides on five-spoke wheels instead of the 10-spoke wheels on the current generation model. And while details of the engine are unavailable, we can expect KTM to retune the unit as well. As for braking hardware, the bike continues to use Brembo callipers on both ends. The upside down front forks look similar to the current model however the placement of the rear monoshock has been changed.
The 1290 Super Duke will also sport new and premium looking switchgear along with a new TFT screen. KTM is also expected to upgrade the bike’s electronic suite which currently includes stability control system, cornering ABS, cruise control, traction control along with three rider modes.
