-BMW F850 R patents leaked in Brazil
-Gets mechanical and cosmetic upgrades
-To be unveiled at the 2019 EICMA
BMW Motorrad is scheduled to unveil four new motorcycles at the 2019 EICMA and according to leaked patent images; one of them is likely to be the 2020 F850 R.
The F 850 R is more than just an upgrade to the F 800 R (sold in international markets) and gets major mechanical and cosmetic changes. One of the major upgrades would be the new 853cc, parallel-twin engine which the F 850 R is expected to derive from the F850 GS that is on sale in India. Furthermore, the F 850 R also sports a new and aggressive design that has been inspired from the bigger R 1250 R. The streetfighter gets a low-slung, full-LED headlamp, sharp tank extensions and a svelte rear end. BMW has also replaced the bulky exhaust canister on the F 800 R for a neatly-designed stubby exhaust.
The patents also reveal that the F850R receives a semi-digital instrument cluster although we can expect BMW to offer the full-colour TFT screen as an accessory. While the bike will make its global debut next month, it is likely to be launched in India in the first half of 2020 as a more affordable option to the R 1250 R. And given that the F850 GS is priced at Rs 13.55 lakhs, BMW could price the F850 R between Rs 12-12.5 lakhs (ex-showroom).
