BMW Motorrad has started its BS6 innings by launching the all-new middle-weight street bike, the F 900 R. The motorcycle was unveiled at last year’s EICMA show in Milan, Italy. Now that the bike is finally here to take on the likes of the KTM 790 Duke and 2020 Triumph Street Triple RS, we take a look at its highlights.
Styling
The F 900 R boasts of an aggressive roadster design which is inspired by its larger sibling, the R 1250 R. The compact, low-slung headlamp of the bike integrates a radical-looking LED DRL. The muscular fuel tank is accompanied by angular extensions while the stubby, upswept tail section complete its sporty look. The F 900 R sports a straight and wide handlebar, slightly rear-set footpegs and a single unit seat which should offer committed yet relaxed ergonomics.
Features
BMW has equipped the F 900 R with full-LED lighting and a 6.5-inch full-colour TFT instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity. The motorcycle also gets traction control and two riding modes – Road and Rain. While these features are standard, one can also opt for cruise control, bi-directional quick shifter, Dynamic ESA, cornering lights, cornering ABS, keyless ignition and Pro riding modes, by paying an extra cost.
Engine
The 895cc, inline twin cylinder engine of the F 900 R is the same unit which propels the F 850 GS ADV. However, the one in the former gets a 2mm larger bore and has a higher compression ratio. It produces 99bhp at 8,500rpm and 90.08Nm at 6,500rpm and comes mated to a six-speed gearbox.
Cycle Parts
The F 900 R is underpinned by a steel trellis frame which is suspended by 43mm upside down forks with 135mm of travel up front and a preload and rebound adjustable monoshock with 142mm of travel at the rear. Anchors are dropped by twin 320mm discs with four-piston radially-mounted calipers at the front and a 265mm disc with a single piston floating caliper at the rear. Incorporating a 13 litre fuel tank, the kerb weight of the bike stands at 211kg.
Pricing
BMW Motorrad has impressively priced the F 900 R at Rs 9.90 lakh (ex-showroom). It is available in two colour options - Blackstorm Metallic and Style Sport in Hockenheim Silver Metallic/Racing Red. Bookings for the motorcycle have already commenced and deliveries might commence soon.
