2020 BMW S 1000 XR pricing and details revealed in the UK

BMW Motorrad had unveiled the 2020 edition of its litre-class sport touring motorcycle, the S 1000 XR, last month at the 2019 EICMA show in Milan. Now, the German bike maker has revealed the details and pricing of the motorcycle in the UK. The base variant of the 2020 model starts at £12,890 (Rs 11.98 lakhs) and goes up to £15,570 (Rs 14.47 lakhs), which is a considerable premium over its predecessor. It will be available in three colour options including black, red and HP Racing edition. 

BMW has also introduced a host of new features in the new S 1000 XR. For instance, the dated-looking semi-analogue instrument cluster has been replaced by a 6.5-inch full-colour TFT display which gets four options of theme. While its predecessor had two riding modes, the new model gets four of them, besides other electronic aids such as traction control, wheelie control and hill start control. Furthermore, it also features an adjustable windscreen, underseat storage space and drop sensor. 

The company has also introduced a set of add-ons for the bike under the Premium Package. This includes electronic suspension adjustment, heated grips, pannier frames, luggage grip and a main centre stand. For those want to make their bike sportier, BMW will also offer M Performance package which includes carbon-fibre components, forged wheels, new footpegs, hand levers and Akrapovic exhaust. 

The sport touring offering borrows the powerplant from its sportsbike sibling, the S 1000 RR. This 999cc, inline four-cylinder is tuned to belt out 162.2bhp and 114Nm on the XR. As per BMW, the 4th, 5th and 6th gear ratios of the new model have been made longer to suit its touring character. What also makes it more capable is the fact that the motorcycle has shed 10kgs over its predecessor, weighing at 226kg (dry). 

BMW will launch the 2020 S 1000 XR in India as well, sometime in 2020. Considering the updates it has received, it will demand a considerable premium over the existing model which retails at Rs 17.65 lakhs (ex-showroom).
