- Gets revised styling and new features
- To carry a price premium over its predecessor
- Compete against the Ducati Multistrada 1260
BMW Motorrad has confirmed via its social media channels that it will launch the 2020 S 1000 XR in the Indian market very soon. The litre-class sports tourer will be joined by its 895cc, twin-cylinder powered sibling, the F 900 XR.
The 2020 iteration of the S 1000 XR, which made its debut at the 2019 EICMA show in Milan, is already available for sale in the international markets. The 2020 S 1000 XR gets a major design and mechanical overhaul over its predecessor. In terms of styling, the 2020 model gets a revised front fascia while the feature list comprises of full-LED lighting and a Bluetooth-enabled 6.5-inch colour display. BMW Motorrad has dropped the asymmetric headlights from the old model for new, sleeker LED units.
Internationally, the motorcycle is available in two colour options:
- Racing Red with White Aluminum Metallic Matte
- Ice Grey
Mechanical specifications on the new model include a Euro5-compliant engine that is claimed to deliver better mid-range power and rideability. BMW Motorrad has revised the 4th, 5th and 6th gear ratios to suit its touring character. The 999cc inline four-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 16-valve, DOHC motor produces 162bhp of power at 11,000rpm and 114Nm of maximum torque at 9,250rpm. The engine is linked to a six-speed gearbox with a slipper and an assist clutch.
The 2020 BMW S 1000 XR will retail at a premium over its predecessor. The previous-generation model, for reference, was sold for Rs 17.65 lakh (ex-showroom). The motorcycle rivals the likes of the Ducati Multistrada 1260.
