BMW Motorrad has confirmed through its social media channels that the 2020 S 1000 XR will be launched in the Indian market on 16 July 2020. The Bavarian brand has already introduced the budget-friendly, smaller-displacement version of the litre-class adventure sports tourer, the F 900 XR in India at an ex-showroom price tag of Rs 10.50 lakh.
The 2020 BMW S 1000 XR gets major cosmetic and mechanical upgrades over its predecessor. The latest iteration of the motorcycle features full-LED lighting and a Bluetooth-enabled 6.5-inch colour display. BMW Motorrad has replaced the asymmetric headlight design from the old model for new, sleeker LED units. Internationally, the motorcycle is available in two colour options – Racing Red with White Aluminum Metallic Matte and Ice Grey.
The motorcycle is powered by a 999cc inline four-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 16-valve, DOHC motor. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, the engine produces 162bhp of power at 11,000rpm and 114Nm of peak torque at 9,250rpm. BMW Motorrad has revised the 4th, 5th and 6th gear ratios to suit its touring character.
The previous-generation model was available for Rs 17.65 lakh. Expect the new model to carry a price premium over its predecessor. The motorcycle rivals the likes of the Ducati Multistrada 1260 and the Kawasaki Versys 1000.
