2020 BMW S 1000 XR: Top 5 Highlights

BMW Motorrad has launched the latest iteration of its litre-class adventure sports tourer, the S 1000 XR in the Indian market. The motorcycle is available in a single variant, Pro and it has been priced at Rs 20,90,000 (ex-showroom India). Here we list the top five highlights of the all-new BMW S 1000 XR.

Design and Features

BMW has heavily updated the styling of the S 1000 XR for 2020. The most noticeable change is the updated front fascia that drops the asymmetric headlight design for sleeker, LED units. The motorcycle also boasts of features like full-LED lighting, electronically adjustable suspension setup and Bluetooth-enabled instrument cluster. The 6.5-inch colour TFT screen works with the BMW Motorrad Connected App. Touring focused design brings a semi-fairing and an adjustable windscreen to the motorcycle. The 2020 S 1000 XR is available in a single variant and two colour options – Racing Red and Ice Grey.

The updated model uses a 999cc, inline four-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that is based on the BMW S 1000 RR’s motor. The adventure sports tourer, however, gets a different tuning. The motor on the S 1000 XR is tuned to produce 162bhp of power at 11,000rpm and a maximum torque of 114Nm at 9,250rpm. The fourth, fifth and sixth gears now have longer ratios. The motorcycle sprints from 0-100kmph in 3.3 seconds, and it boasts of a top speed of over 200kmph.

Electronics

The S 1000 XR has four riding modes – Rain, Road, Dynamic and Dynamic Pro – as standard. Unlike the other modes, the ‘Dynamic Pro’ mode is fully configurable. The rider can adjust the throttle response, engine brake, ABS, traction control and wheelie control settings in the Dynamic Pro mode. The safety net also includes cornering ABS.
