BMW Motorrad is all set to launch the 2020 S 1000 XR in India tomorrow, 16 July. So, before it arrives in the country here is what you can expect from the Bavarian manufacturer’s upcoming motorcycle.
All-new styling
The BMW S 1000 XR has gained a few styling tweaks for the 2020 model. The most prominent of those changes is the exclusion of the trademark asymmetric headlamp that has been replaced by symmetrical full-LED units that lend a more compact look to the front end. The fairing has also become sleeker than before and uses more body coloured components around it, making it look beefier. And the 2020 S 1000 XR weighs 226kg without fuel; that is nearly 10kgs lighter than the previous model.
New features
BMW has equipped the new S 1000 XR with new technology and features like full-LED lighting, a 6.5-inch full-colour TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity. As for rider aids the motorcycle comes with traction control, wheelie control, hill-start assist, a quick shifter as well as four riding modes. If you want more, the company is also offering two sets of customisation packages as optional accessories.
Two colours
BMW will be offering the sport-touring motorcycle in a choice of two colour options- ‘Ice Grey’ and ‘Racing Red/White Aluminum’
Revised engine
Powering the S 1000 XR is a 999cc, in-line four-cylinder engine borrowed from the S1000 RR. The engine churns out 162.2bhp and 114Nm. Moreover, the unit on the sports tourer misses out on the ShiftCam technology and the gearbox has been tweaked to amplify the S 1000 XR’s touring abilities.
Pricing
While the outgoing S 1000 XR was priced at Rs 17.65 lakh (ex-showroom), we can expect the new model to costs a significant premium thanks to the upgrades.
