- The 2020 CBR1000RR is expected to debut at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show
- Will get active aerodynamics for enhanced performance
- To be powered by a more powerful in-line four motor
It was only a few days ago when a patent was leaked revealing Honda's plans of a new CBR1000RR Fireblade that incorporates active aerodynamics technology. Although it was expected to still be a few months away from its official debut, new reports suggest that the 2020 version of the superbike will be unveiled as early as next month, at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show.
Going by the details surfaced until now, the next-generation CBR will be a major departure from the existing model. The main highlight of the sportsbike will be the inclusion of active aerodynamics tech comprising movable winglets mounted inside the fairing, which can deploy and retract as per the requirement. We have recently explained the functionality in detail and you can read about it here.
The powerplant of the motorcycle will also be a heavily revised version of the current motor. While it will retain the existing in-line four-cylinder configuration, the Japanese bikemaker revealed in a statement that it will be the most powerful motor employed in the superbike till date. In that case, we can expect power figures to exceed 200bhp, up from the current 186.3bhp. To accommodate the reworked engine and save weight, the twin-spar aluminum chassis of the bike will also undergo changes.
Design-wise, the new CBR1000RR will feature a fairing design inspired by Honda's MotoGP machine, the RC213V. The recently-surfaced patent revealed a front end with a compact air-intake which is believed to integrate an LED headlamp, giving the bike a radical appeal. Furthermore, the electronic aids are also expected to be more comprehensive and advance.
The 2020 Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade will also arrive at the Indian shores, post its international debut. It will lock horns with the Ducati Panigale V4, 2019 BMW S1000RR, Yamaha YZF-R1 and the upcoming Aprilia RSV4 1100.
