2020 Kawasaki Ninja 650: What’s New?

Kawasaki has taken the wraps off the 2020 Ninja 650 in international markets. The sports tourer gets visual, mechanical changes along with an updated electronics package. We tell you all that is new about the new Ninja 650. 

Sharper styling

Kawasaki seems to have taken the ‘one design for all’ approach with their recent motorcycles and the 2020 Ninja 650 is also one of them. But we aren’t complaining. In comparison to the 2019 Ninja 650 which is on sale in India, the new model gets a sharper fairing which looks very similar to the Ninja ZX-6R thanks to the aggressive split headlamp setup. The fuel tank has also gotten more muscular and is likely to provide more thigh support.  The designers at Kawasaki have left the Ninja 650’s rear section untouched as the bike continues to sport the split seat setup with a stubby tail. 

Updated electronics package

Another important update on the Ninja 650 for 2020 is the new 4.3-inch screen TFT full-colour instrument console. The display integrates Bluetooth which allows it to be connected to a smartphone via the dedicated app. The app also displays the motorcycle’s status and ride data. 

Revised motor

The 2020 Kawasaki Ninja 650 comes powered by a 649cc, parallel-twin engine that is now BS-VI compliant. This motor produces 67.2bhp, same as the previous model. However, torque has reduced by 1.7Nm and comes in 200rpm higher. It comes mated to a six-speed gearbox. 

Colour options

Kawasaki is offering the 2020 Ninja 650 in three colour options- Metallic Spark Black and Flat Stardust White with Metallic Flat Spark Black and the Kawasaki Racing Team Green colour scheme.

Pricing

The Japanese manufacturer hasn’t revealed pricing for the international markets as of now. On the other hand, we can expect the motorcycle to make its way to India by the end of this year or early 2020. It will cost a considerable premium over the current bike which costs Rs 5.49 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
