Kawasaki has launched the second BS6-compliant motorcycle, the 2020 Z650, in India. From a tweaked design to greener powerplant, it gets a bunch of updates over the previous model. For all the prospective buyers out there, we bring you the top five highlights of the 2020 Z650.
New design
The 2020 Kawasaki Z650 sports a refreshed design which looks much more aggressive than before. The bold halogen headlamp has been replaced by a more compact, dual LED setup while the fuel tank and its extensions are also beefier now. The styling has remained unchanged beyond the fuel tank. The motorcycle also boasts of new set of decals while the pillion seat is thicker for more comfort.
Bluetooth-enabled display
The new Z650 gets a 4.3-inch, full-colour TFT instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity. It pairs with the rider’s smartphone and gives access to various functions through ‘Rideology The App.’ Other features of the motorcycle include a 15 litre fuel tank and dual channel ABS.
BS6-compliant engine
Powering the Z650 is the same 649cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled, DOHC eight-valve motor which is now compliant with the new BS6 emission norms. While the power figures have remained unchanged at 67.3bhp and 64Nm, the intake and exhaust components have been tweaked for delivering better mid-range torque.
Grippier tyres
While Kawasaki has left the cycle parts of the street bike untouched, it gets new shoes in the form of Dunlop Sportmax Roadsport 2 rubbers for better grip on the asphalt. Suspension duties are handled by 41mm telescopic forks and a preload-adjustable monoshock. Stopping power comes from a pair of 300mm discs up front and a 220mm disc at the rear.
Reasonable price hike
Kawasaki has priced the new Z650 at Rs 5.94 lakh (ex-showroom) which is a premium of Rs 25,000 over the previous model. It is available in a single Metallic Spark Black colour option. Bookings for the bike have already begun at all authorised Kawasaki dealerships across India and deliveries are expected to commence soon.
