Yamaha has taken the wraps off the new MT-15 in India along with the new Fascino 125 and Cygnus Ray ZR 125. The motorcycle gets a few changes that sets it apart from the previous model. Here is a list of what’s new on the 2020 MT-15.
New colour option
Yamaha seems to have heard the woes of its Indian audience and introduced a new colour option for the new MT-15. First seen on the Indonesian-spec model, the ‘Ice Fluo Vermillion’ paint is now available in India and comprises of a matte white paint with neon orange highlights and wheels. It is a welcome replacement for the full-black colour option that the MT-15 was first launched in. And along with the Ice Fluo paint, the motorcycle is offered in a ‘Dark Matt Blue’ paint scheme that featured on the previous model.
Added features
The motorcycle now comes with a side-stand engine inhibitor. This feature cuts power to the engine and prevents it from cranking if the side-stand is down. Moreover, the new MT-15 is also offered with a radial tyre at the rear as standard.
BS6-compliant engine
Powering the new MT-15 is the same 155cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine with VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) technology as the recently launched 2020 YZF-R15 V3. This engine produces 18.3bhp of power and 14.1Nm of torque; a drop of 0.7bhp and 0.6Nm as compared to the BS4 model. However, it continues to come mated to a six-speed gearbox with slipper clutch.
Pricing
Yamaha hasn’t revealed the pricing of the new MT-15 which is expected to be launched sometime in January 2020. Nevertheless, it is likely to cost a premium of around Rs 4,000 over the BS4 version which is priced at Rs 1.36 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
