- Could come with switchable ABS
- Gets 19-inch front with a wider 100 section tyre
- Hazard light switch added
The Royal Enfield Himalayan is a good motorcycle, especially since the time it has received the BS4 update. But now, the manufacturer is preparing to bring in the BS6 version of the bike that has been spied for the very first time. Till now only spied images of the new Classic and Thunderbird models have been circulating on the internet.
While the overall design of the 2020 Himalayan remains the same, there are a couple of changes that are visible on closer inspection. Starting from the front, the test mule featured a 19-inch chrome finish front wheel instead of the larger 21-inch wheel with a blacked-out finish on the current model. The wheels were shod with MRF Meteor tyres which should improve grip levels when riding off-road. Furthermore, the front wheel features a wider 100 section one instead of the 90 section one on the current setup.
Moving to the other bits, the test mule featured the same instrument console but had an additional button located between the speedometer and fuel gauge dials. We feel that this button has been devised for switching off the ABS for the rear wheel which till now has been a restriction when it comes to off-roading or trail-riding. Besides that, the hazard switch is now located on the RHS switchgear for easier access.
In the case of the engine, it will be a BS6 compliant motor with a larger catalytic converter. Now, whether the motor will witness a drop in power to comply with the more stringent norms. Whether Royal Enfield opts to bump up the displacement to overcome the power loss will only be known later. Other than that, expect the 2020 edition of the Himalayan to receive new colour options as well.
