2020 Triumph Tiger 900 range unveiled; is now lighter and gets more features

- New Tiger 900 unveiled 

- Gets 900cc engine, makes more torque 

- India launch next year 

Triumph Motorcycles has finally taken the wraps off the new Tiger 900. This new adventure motorcycle has now lost weight, gets more features, torque and looks so much better.

The KTM 790 Adventure and BMW F850GS rival is built around a new modular frame. The subframe is bolt-on in nature. The usage of new chassis has helped the company reduce weight by up to 5kgs, depending on the variant. With the Tiger, Triumph has used new naming system for its road and off-road variants. The road-versions are now called GT whereas the off-road variants gets the Rally tag. There are a total of six variants on offer – the base model Tiger 900, Tiger 900 GT, Tiger 900 GT Low, Tiger 900 GT Pro, Tiger 900 Rally and the top-spec Tiger 900 Rally Pro.

The Rally versions are equipped with a much fancier suspension and spoke wheels. The GT ones, however, gets cast wheels. The Tiger 900 GT and GT Pro get Marzocchi setup front and rear with 180mm travel at the front and 170mm at the back. There’s adjustment for compression, rebound and pre-load. The Rally and the Rally Pro gets Show suspension with a massive 240mm travel at the front and 230mm at the back. The British maker has revised the overall ergonomics of the motorcycle. The handlebars are 10mm closer to the rider. Plus, the seat is narrower.

In terms of equipment, there are many. The new Tiger comes with six riding modes, traction control system and new TFT screen that the company claims is one of the best in the segment. The top-spec Pro variant gets tyre pressure monitoring system, heated grips and shift assist. The new Tiger 900 gets its power from a new 900cc engine that pumps out 94bhp which is the same as the Tiger 800. But the torque has now increased by 10 per cent to 87Nm at 7250rpm. The new Tiger 900 tips the scale at 192kgs. The top-spec Rally Pro weighs a few kgs more.

The new Tiger 900 is likely to go on sale in India next year. In terms of pricing, expect the cost of the base model to remain the same, but the price of the other variants are definitely going to increase a bit. The Tiger brand has been the highest selling premium ADV brand in India. Now with the new model, it is bound to get more sales for the company.
