- Updated Aprilia SR 160 spotted testing
- Gets the SXR 160-like fully digital console
- Official launch to take place soon
It was in April this year that we had told you about Piaggio working on an updated model of the Aprilia SR 160. After a few months now, a new Aprilia scooter has been spied testing which is the same updated SR 160 in all certainty.
The highlight of the test mule was the presence of a fully digital instrument cluster, unlike the existing model’s semi-digital unit. Going by the design, this is the same LCD unit that we have seen on SXR 160 and the SXR 125 maxi-scooters by Aprilia. Another visible change is in the tail lamp which appears to be styled differently. There seems to be an X-shaped tail lamp. While the rest of the body panels were camouflaged, we expect the 2021 SR 160 to get slightly redone body panels with updated graphics and colour schemes.
What’s clearly unchanged in the 2021 SR 160 are its 14-inch alloy wheels and the 160.03cc, air-cooled, three-valve engine. This unit produces 10.84bhp of power and 11.6Nm of peak torque. The scooter is suspended by telescopic forks up front and a monoshock at the rear. Meanwhile, braking is taken care of by a disc and a drum at the front and rear, respectively.
The official launch of the updated Aprilia SR 160 is likely to take place during the ongoing festive season, as was affirmed by the company MD, Diego Graffi. At present, the prices of the scooter start at Rs 1.08 lakh (ex-showroom) and the new model might demand a slight premium.
