The Road King is a long-distance highway mile-muncher from Harley-Davidson. We recently got fortunate enough to spend some quality days with this American bagger. You can read our detailed review of the motorcycle here. If you have already read it, let’s take a second look at some of our favourite images from the review.
One of the highlights of the Road King is that it fetches a lot of attention on the road, just like all other touring models from Harley. This red and chrome colour variant in particular looks even more stunning.
Matching its burly dimensions is the staggering heft of 375kg (kerb). Although it feels really handful to manoeuvre in traffic and around the parking lot, all the weight disappears as you pick up the pace.
The Road King makes up for the heavy with an extremely accessible 705mm of seat height which is pretty welcoming even for the shorter riders.
Besides low seat height, the sofa-like design and cushioning of the seat also do a commendable job of keeping the rider’s derriere at ease.
What acts as a fly in the ointment though is its extremely stiff ride quality. Due to the limited suspension travel and quick rebound of the rear, you can feel almost every undulation.
Propelling the Road King is a 1,746cc, Milwaukee-Eight 107 powerplant that churns out a stonking 150Nm of peak torque coming in at 3,250rpm.
The performance is the strongest after 2,500rpm beyond which the feels like a raging bull, charging mercilessly towards its target.
The six-speed gearbox feels fairly clunky and the clutch also feels heavy, especially in traffic. However, the presence of a slipper clutch prevents the rear wheel from locking up while downshifting aggressively.
The prices of the Harley-Davidson Road King starts from Rs 27 lakh (ex-showroom) and the company offers a host of accessory to spruce up its styling and enhance comfort.
