Kawasaki has taken the wraps off the new 2021 edition of its middle-weight sport tourer, the Ninja 650. Although it will only be available in the American market as of now, its India entry is inevitable at a later stage. The motorcycle has remained unchanged mechanically but the new colour options it is available in look quite striking. In that case, let’s take a quick look at its pictures before we see it in flesh here.
The 2021 Ninja 650 has been introduced in Pearl Robotic White and Metallic Carbon Grey colour schemes. Apart from the two-tone paint on its body panels, the traditional green colour continues to adorn it in certain parts.
The overall styling of the motorcycle has remained the same and that’s justifiable as it had received a design makeover just last year.
Drawing styling inspiration from the previous-gen ZX-10R, it sports a sharp nose faring housing dual LED headlamp, and indicators that are integrated within the fairing. This is accompanied by a beefy fuel tank and an upswept tail section.
In last year’s update, the motorcycle had received a new colour TFT display that too has been retained. It connects with the rider’s smartphone via Bluetooth and provides a bunch of info on its exclusive mobile application.
The ergonomics of the Ninja 650 are comfortable with a hint of sportiness. The clip-on handlebar is easy to reach, the seat is cushy and spacious while the footpegs are just slightly set at the rear.
Powering the sport tourer is a 649cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine that makes 67.3bhp at 8,000rpm and 64Nm at 6,700rpm. The transmission setup includes six cogs with a slipper clutch.
The Ninja 650 rides on Dunlop Sportmax Roadsport 2 tyres that are wrapped around 17-inch alloy wheels. Damping duties are handled by telescopic forks and a preload-adjustable monoshock. A pair of 300mm discs at the front and a single 220mm disc at the rear perform the speed-shedding function.
