Yamaha has revealed the 2021 iteration of its naked roadster motorcycle, the MT-09. The 2021 Yamaha MT-09 packs revised styling, more power and sheds weight. Here we bring a detailed image gallery of the motorcycle.
In terms of design, the new MT-09 represents the next major step in the ongoing evolution of the MT DNA. The redesigned bodywork features a sharper design, along with features like full LED lighting and a 3.5-inch full-colour TFT instrument cluster. The new MT-09 will be available in three colours – Storm Fluo, Icon Blue, and Tech Black.
The 2021 MT-09 uses a lightweight CF die-cast aluminium Deltabox chassis. The new aluminium frame, subframe, and swingarm are 2.3kg lighter than the old bike. The 2021 MT-09 weighs 189kgs.
Mechanically, the motor features a higher displacement than the old model. The new, 2021 version features an 889cc motor as against the 847cc engine on its predecessor. This has been achieved by the bigger bore size.
The Euro5-compliant motor makes 118bhp of power at 10,000rpm and 93Nm of peak torque at 7,000rpm. The 2021 powerplant – including the new exhaust – is 1,700g lighter than the motor on the old bike.
The 889cc engine also gets a new fuel delivery system. Unlike its predecessor, the fuel injectors on the 2021 model are mounted to the throttle valve side, and fuel is injected onto the back of the intake valve heads.
The Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle (YCC-T) is upgraded for 2021 with the addition of a new Accelerator Position Sensor Grip (APSG).
The MT-09 also gets a six-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU). The safety net on the motorcycle includes a lean-sensitive traction control system, cornering ABS, slide control and wheelie control.
The hardware on the motorcycle comprises fully-adjustable KYB front forks and KYB rear mono-shock to perform the shock absorption tasks. The braking setup includes twin rotors at the front and a single disc at the back.
The SpinForged 17-inch 10-spoke wheels are wrapped in 180/70-17 rear and 120/70-17 front tyres.
