The Honda CB300R re-entered the Indian market last month with a cleaner engine and a few other updates. Despite being assembled locally now, the motorcycle is priced Rs 36,000 higher as compared to the previous iteration of the bike. In that case, if its 2.77 lakh price tag is putting you off and you’re considering its similarly-priced alternatives, here are the top four contenders.
BMW G 310 R: Rs 2.65 lakh
Starting with one of the closest rivals of the CB300R, the BMW G 310 R is the most affordable offering from the Bavarian manufacturer. It’s a typical BMW in terms of fit and finish, which are top-notch. Other impressive traits are the torquey 313cc single-cylinder engine, extremely nimble handling, and comfortable ergonomics. The feature list is decent too with a slipper clutch, adjustable levers, digital console, and full-LED lighting.
KTM 390 Duke: Rs 2.88 lakh
For Rs 10,000 more than the CB300R’s price, you can choose the king of the segment, the KTM 390 Duke. It’s literally a benchmark when it comes to technology and performance. The 373.2cc, single-cylinder mill produces 42.9bhp and 37Nm. This is complemented by handling dynamics that are sharp as a knife. Making it further desirable are a barrage of features including a full-colour TFT screen, Bluetooth connectivity, slipper clutch, and a bi-directional quick shifter.
Royal Enfield Interceptor 650: Rs 2.86-3.10 lakh
For those who like all things old-school, the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 is an enticing option. It’s the most affordable multi-cylinder motorcycle in India with incredible performance on tap. The 684cc, parallel-twin motor is high on refinement and churns out 47bhp and 52Nm. With a slipper clutch and dual-channel ABS, the feature list isn’t extraordinary. However, the simplicity of the bike is what makes it likeable.
BMW G 310 GS: Rs 3.05 lakh
The BMW G 310 GS is based on the same platform as the G 310 R but there are certain differences that make the former more versatile. It gets longer travel suspension, higher ground clearance, dual-purpose tyres, and profoundly comfortable ergonomics. Apart from its 313cc engine with loads of mid-range torque, one of the strongest traits of the baby GS is its phenomenally plush ride quality.
