The all-new 2022 KTM RC 200 has been unveiled for the international markets, and the updated motorcycle should arrive on Indian shores very soon. The new model gets several upgrades over its predecessor and here we explain the 2022 KTM RC 200 in detail.
Design and Features
The biggest change to the styling of the 2022 model is visible at the front. The updated front fascia features a single-pod halogen headlight that replaces the twin-pod projector-style units on the old model. While the headlight is a halogen unit, all other lights are LED. The updated cockpit on the 2022 model uses a larger LCD screen instead of the compact orange backlit unit on the previous motorcycle. In comparison, the 2022 RC 125 and the RC 390 use a colour TFT display with Bluetooth connectivity. The fuel tank capacity on the 2022 RC range has gone up from 9.5-litres to 13.7-litres.
Colours
The 2022 KTM RC 200 is available in two colour choices – Black and White. Both colourways feature a KTM decal that runs across the fairing, a KTM logo on the tank, a dual-tone finish, and orange paint for the sub-frame and the alloy wheels.
Revised Ergonomics
Apart from the styling, KTM has also revised the ergonomics on the 2022 model. The new RC 200 features friendlier and upright ergonomics with the updated handlebar setup that now sits 15mm higher than the previous generation model. However, it can be lowered by 10mm for a more aggressive riding position. The seats, too, have been redesigned and the 2022 RC 200 uses more foam, profile, and new material. The seat height is rated at 824mm.
Hardware
The changes to the 2022 model are more than just styling revisions. The revised chassis, for example, now features a bolted sub-frame instead of the welded unit on the previous generation model. KTM claims that the updated chassis setup helps shed 1.5kg over the old model. The suspension tasks are handled by 43mm WP APEX big piston forks with 120mm travel at the front and WP APEX mono-shock with 150mm travel at the back.
The braking hardware comprises a 320mm single disc with a four-piston radial fixed calliper at the front and a 230mm single rotor with a single-piston floating calliper at the back. The safety net includes Bosch 9.1 MB dual-channel ABS with Supermoto mode to disengage the system at the rear. The new five-spoke wheels are claimed to reduce one kilogram from the overall weight. The motorcycle tips the weighing scale at 151kg (dry).
Engine
While the styling and underpinnings have received changes, the mechanical specifications remain similar to the old motorcycle that already complied with the Euro5/BS6 emission norms. Thus, the 199.5cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine continues to deliver 25.4bhp of power and 19.5Nm of peak torque.
India Launch and Expected Price
The new 2022 KTM RC range is expected to reach the international markets next year. The Indian launch, however, could happen sooner. Sources close to the developments indicate a September 2021 launch in India. The updated model should carry a price premium over the old motorcycle that was available for Rs 2.09 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
