KTM’s entire RC line-up is due for a major update. The Austrian bike maker has been rigorously testing the overhauled iterations of these fully-faired motorcycles. The spy shots have emerged on multiple occasions until now, telling us a lot about the changes beforehand. In that case, here’s what we know about the next-generation 2022 KTM RC 390 so far.
Design
The styling of the RC models has remained the same ever since their inception. But the 2022 models will finally get new clothing and they won’t look as aggressive as the existing versions. Although they will continue to boast sharp design lines, the overall aesthetics will be slightly bulkier, making the bikes look more mature. And as is the case with the existing RC series, the RC 390’s design will mostly be retained in the RC 125 and the RC 200 as well.
Features
The next-gen RC 390 will do away with the dated LCD and employ a colour TFT screen, just like the 390 Duke. Bluetooth connectivity for smartphone pairing and navigation functionality could also be on offer. Unlike the existing bike’s projector headlamp, the illumination set up front will be full-LED, as will be the tail lamp. Hopefully, KTM also optimizes its ride-by-wire tech by introducing multiple riding modes, similar to the TVS Apache RR310.
Engine
There isn’t much information available about the changes its engine has gone through. However, our calculated guess says that it will be tuned to be more tractable and the power delivery will be more linear. Nevertheless, expect the displacement to be the same at 373cc with liquid-cooling and a slick-shifting six-speed gearbox.
Hardware
The most noticeable hardware change has been observed in the chassis. The spotted test mules were underpinned by a newly-designed frame and sub-frame. Moreover, KTM might have also tweaked the suspension setup to make the ride quality comfier than the present setup that’s fairly stiff. Going by the body position of the test riders, the overall geometry of the handlebar, seat, and footpegs has also been altered to make the bike more comfortable.
Pricing
Considering the potential updates, expect the next-generation RC 390 to carry a substantial premium over the ongoing model, somewhere around Rs 20,000-40,000. At present, KTM retails the motorcycle at Rs 2.66 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
