After much anticipation, the 2022 KTM RC 390 finally made it to the Indian shores. In its latest iteration, the Austrian supersports has received a host of cosmetic as well as mechanical updates. Let’s take a look at all that’s new on the bike.
Design
KTM has redesigned pretty much the entire bike for 2022. The sharply chiseled fascia on the old bike has been replaced by a broader one. It houses a single-piece LED headlight, unlike the laterally stacked projector units we saw on the previous model. Even the turn indicators are different and appear like a boomerang.
The side panels and fuel tank cover too have been tweaked. The 2022 RC 390 gets a new and wider rider and pillion seat with a different cover too.
Features
KTM has upped the ante for its most powerful supersports even in terms of features. It’s now equipped with a TFT screen that gets smartphone compatibility. On the safety front, the 2022 RC 390 features lean-sensitive ABS (switchable) as well as traction control. The bike gets a quickshifter as standard fitment.
Hardware
The 2022 KTM RC 390 rides on WP USD front forks (non-adjustable) but gets a single-piston WP Apex rear shock with five-step preload and rebound adjustability. Not just that, even the chassis has been tweaked and the RC 390 gets a bolt-on subframe which makes it easier and more affordable to replace. Overall, the frame is 1.5kg lighter than before.
For the braking hardware, the new RC gets a 4-piston caliper with a 320mm front disc and a 230mm rear disc. These are about 960gm lighter (combined) than the previous model’s setup. Furthermore, KTM has managed to shed off 3.4kg of mass with the new bionic 5-spoke wheels. These are wrapped in Metzeler’s sticky rubber.
Engine
While the latest model is equipped with the same 373cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor, the airbox has been enlarged for better airflow. The bike still develops 42.9bhp and 37Nm. Not to mention, the exhaust setup has also been updated. The radiator fan too has been altered for better heat dissipation.
Asking Price
KTM India has priced the 2022 RC 390 at Rs 3.14 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Compared to the previous model, the latest costs Rs 36,000 more.
